UGC: build a portfolio in a weekend
The 6 portfolio videos, with shot lists
These six cover what most brands order. Each is 15 to 45 seconds. Film all six across 3 products (2 per product) so your portfolio shows range.
Shot 1: Close-up, product next to your face. Hook: "I've tried [5] [category] products and this is the only one I rebought." Shot 2: Talking head. The problem you had, in one sentence. Shot 3: B-roll of using it (hands, texture, close-up). Shot 4: Talking head. The result, specific: "[result] after [time]." Shot 5: Product in hand. CTA: "If you [problem], try this."
Shot 1: Show the problem, exaggerated but real (messy cable drawer, frizz, dog hair on couch). On-screen text: "This was me every [morning]." Shot 2: Frustrated reaction, 1 second. Shot 3: Product enters frame. Shot 4: Product solving it, in one continuous shot if possible. Shot 5: After shot, same angle as shot 1. Shot 6: You, relieved. Line: "Why didn't I do this sooner?"
Shot 1: Package lands on table (drop it into frame). Hook: "Everyone's been talking about [product], so let's see." Shot 2: Hands opening, satisfying close-up. Shot 3: Product reveal, turn it slowly toward the light. Shot 4: First touch or first use, genuine reaction. Shot 5: Talking head: 2 things you noticed right away. Shot 6: Verdict line and what you'll test next.
Shot 1: Result first. Hook: "Here's how I get [result] in [time]." Shot 2: Step 1, top-down or over-the-shoulder, text on screen. Shot 3: Step 2, same framing. Shot 4: Step 3, same framing. Shot 5: Final result, close-up. Shot 6: Talking head tip: "The mistake most people make is [x]."
Shot 1: Product held up. Hook: "3 reasons [product] is worth it." Shot 2: Reason 1 + matching b-roll. Shot 3: Reason 2 + matching b-roll. Shot 4: Reason 3 (save the best for last) + b-roll. Shot 5: Talking head: "And it's only [price]." or "Link's right there."
Film one 20-second body (demo or testimonial), then 3 different 3-second openings: Hook A (problem): "If your [problem], watch this." Hook B (curiosity): "I didn't expect a [price] [product] to do this." Hook C (social proof): "This has [X] reviews and now I get why." Deliver as 3 full edits so the buyer can test them as ads. This one sells your skill better than anything.

Gifted to paid: conversion scripts
Gifted collabs are fine early if you use them on purpose: to build a portfolio and prove results, then convert the brand to paid. Never agree to guaranteed posting in exchange for product alone once you're booking paid work.
Thank you, I'd love to try [product]! Just so we're on the same page: I only post about products I genuinely use, so there's no guaranteed post with gifting. If it's a fit, I'll share it organically and send you the results. My address is [address].
Hi [Name], quick update: I shared [product] on [date] and it's at [X] views, [X] saves and [X] comments, including a lot of "where did you get this?" (screenshots attached). My audience clearly connects with it, so I'd love to build on it with a paid partnership: [1 Reel + 3 Story frames] in [month], with 30 days of usage for your page. That package is $[X]. Want me to send over a concept?
Thank you for thinking of me! For guaranteed posted content, I work on a paid basis, starting at $[X] for [deliverable]. If you'd like to send product with no obligation, I'm happy to try it, and if it's a genuine fit I'll let you know how it lands.
I'm excited about [product] and happy to use an affiliate link. Since a dedicated video takes [X] hours to plan, film and edit, I work on a flat fee plus commission for posted content: $[X] plus your standard [X]% commission. That way you only pay a small fixed amount and we both win when it sells.
Hi [Name], thanks again for [campaign]. Final numbers: [X] views, [X] clicks, [X] saves. I'd love to keep this going. For [next season], I could do [2 videos over 2 months] at $[X] for the pair (a [10]% bundle discount). Want me to hold dates?

Rate card: typical 2026 ranges
These are typical US ranges we see and that industry rate guides report for 2026. They are starting points, not promises. Niche, engagement, average views, production level and usage rights move them a lot.
- Quick sanity check: many creators start around $10 to $30 per 1,000 average views for a sponsored short video, higher in premium niches.
- TikTok rates often run a little below Instagram at the same tier, but TikTok can deliver more views per post.
- YouTube integrations (60 to 90 seconds in a long video) usually price higher than Shorts or Reels.
| Tier | IG Reel or TikTok video | IG Story (per frame) | UGC video (no posting) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nano (1K to 10K) | $50 to $400 | $10 to $75 | $150 to $400 |
| Micro (10K to 50K) | $300 to $1,500 | $75 to $300 | $250 to $600 |
| Mid (50K to 100K) | $1,000 to $3,500 | $200 to $600 | $300 to $1,000 |
| Macro (100K to 500K) | $3,000 to $10,000+ | $500 to $2,000 | Rarely separate |
Plug your own average views, engagement rate and deal terms into rate-calculator.csv for a suggested starting price per deliverable. It's a starting point for your quote, not a rule.

Questions
Who is this for?
Aspiring and early creators (roughly 0 to 50K followers) who want to earn from content, UGC creators building a portfolio, and professionals or founders starting a personal brand. It's US-focused.
What's included?
16 chapters: mindset and math, niche, profiles, pillars and formats, platform playbooks (Instagram, TikTok and TikTok Shop, YouTube, LinkedIn, Substack), filming on a budget, a 90-day creator calendar, growth, analytics, income streams, UGC portfolio in a weekend, brand deals (media kit, rates, pitches, contracts), landing your first 10 brand deals, running it like a business, scaling, and a toolkit with gear lists, a glossary and a contract clause library. Plus 4 Google Sheets-ready templates (90-day content calendar, brand pitch tracker, rate calculator, income and expense tracker), the PDF, and The Yap Playbook with 90 talking-video hooks.
Do I need a big following to use it?
No. It covers income streams that work with zero audience, like UGC and services, what to post at 0 followers, and a step-by-step system to land your first paid brand deals with small numbers.
Is it up to date?
Yes. It reflects 2026: Instagram's views-first insights and 5-hashtag cap, Trial Reels, TikTok Shop's pilot tier and the US joint venture, YouTube's title and thumbnail testing and monetization tiers, LinkedIn's video push, the new $2,000 1099-NEC threshold and current FTC disclosure guidance.
Is this legal or tax advice?
No. It's practical education with templates, typical ranges and example contract language. For contracts, business structure and taxes, work with an attorney and a tax professional.
